Nothing gets butts in seats like anime and tokusatsu! Otaku content rules the box office and commands as much lobby space as screen space, especially at Shinjuku's Wald 9 theater. Let's go find out what's showing!
The new Girls und Panzer: This is the Real Anzio Battle! follows the trend of giving OVAs a short theatrical screening before the Blu-ray goes on sale. Nothing like seeing anime on the big screen with surround sound!
It's also cool to see all the goodies the cinema puts on display for promotion. The character cips and SD tanks from Banpresto were certainly cute, but the main attraction was the model tanks painted by the voice actresses.
Toe's tokusatsu heroes are playing back-to-back in the double feature Ressha Sentai TōQGer The Movie: Galaxy Line SOS and Kamen Rider Gaim the Movie: The Great Soccer Battle! The Golden Fruit Cup Struggle! You can read about the ludicrous plots here. Sorry, I can't be bothered explaining--I'm too busy coloring in the movie flyer!
The Piccadilly theater down the street is running a promotion for the live-action Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Taika-hen. Poor Shishio-sama looks so sad sitting on that plush couch all by his lonesome. Don't look so pouty--Kenshin will be back for the sequel, I promise.
