--Translated from our Japanese blog--

Kotobukiya is throwing down the gauntlet with a new line of Evangelion plastic kits!

They've unleashed an uncontrollable beast with a plastic kit of Unit-01, the behemoth star of the 2009 film Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance.

The kit is easy to build and comes with an armory of accessories to recreate scenes and action-packed poses from the film. Join us as we get hands on with the first truly accurate scale Evangelion plastic kit!

Greetings! It’s Shizu Mecha.

I've covered countless Eva products in the past, but I’m pumped to talk about the first plastic kit of Evangelion Unit-01 from Kotobukiya!

Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance Plastic Kit 1/400 Regular Artificial Human

For their first Evangelion kit, Kotobukiya went with the fan-favorite Unit-01!

The robot design was tweaked between the first and second films, and these improvements are reflected in the streamlined silhouette.

While Unit-01 has numerous model kits from different makers going all the way back to the TV series, it was never given an official height (80 meters) until the Rebuild of Evangelion films, making this the first product to denote the scale in its title.

Evangelion got back—a hunchback, that is. The sickly stance is accentuated by wiry arms.

Kotobukiya kits are known for their slick pre-painted parts, and Unit-01 is no exception. The yellow eyes, green chin and chest armor, black neck pieces and more come painted, giving the completed figure a cinematic feel right out of the box.

[Special feature 1: Knee and thigh connectivity]

Unit-01 was built for dynamic poses! The kneecap and lower thigh armor move in unison, so when the knee bends, the black v-shaped incision on the thigh slides forward, creating a crisp silhouette that allows the figure to stay upright even in a deep crouch

The kit comes equipped with a pallet rifle and progressive knife, along with interchangeable hand parts for each. The stomach and shoulder parts can be articulated to put Unit-01 in a belly down sniper pose.

Makes you want to put a positron rifle in those hands, right? But that impressive piece of hardware was from the first film…

Kotobukiya! I know you’re reading this! If there’s one company that can make my figure dreams a reality, it’s you!

[Special feature 2: Progressive knife deployment]

The interchangeable shoulder parts open to store the progressive knife!

Of course, the kit can easily reach over to pull out the blade from its left shoulder with its right hand.

(Contains separate knife prop for deployment as pictured above.)

[Special feature 3: Ejectable entry plug]

Pull the block at the base of the neck and the entry plug comes up with it! You have to see it in person to get the full effect.

You can pull the exposed entry plug out with tweezers. Around the office we've been feeding them to Unit-01 like Pocky to recreate that one scene with Unit-03.

The umbilical cable is made of a flexible material and fits into the back socket, which also works with the M.S.G. Modeling Support Goods Mechanical Base Flying 3, or any other M.S.G. products with a 3mm diameter peg.

Dropping low for an up-shot, it’s hard to believe that a 1/400 scale figure can look this imposing! It’s even harder to imagine that this is the same figure that was lying prone in a sniper position moments ago. Looking at the silhouette gives me shivers!

“Target approaching. Distance: Approximately 20,000”

Start from a crouch...

…and EXPLODE into a full-force run!

Plastic kits aren't supposed to move like this! But if it can’t handle this range of motion, then it’s not an Evangelion I’d want to pilot!

This kit has what it takes to recreate the pulse-pounding battle with the Eighth Angel, where the three Eva Units break out into an all-or-nothing dash.

*CAUTION: May break the sound barrier!

All I need now are shield walls props to build a diorama of Unit-01 leaping across them like a makeshift ramp!

“Stop it! Stop it stop it stop it STOP IT!”

Run for your life! The berserker mode from Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance is here to pummel your dreams to dust!

The mouth is movable so you don’t need to swap it for a different head. The design is true to the film—the jaw drops first, allowing the mouth to open.

The rear of the model has a 3mm socket that we hooked to an M.S.G. Modeling Support Goods Mechanical Base Flying 3 for the action shots.

By Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, all that stuff happens with Unit-01, making the Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance incarnation—and this awesome kit--the most recent version of the Shinji-piloted Unit-01.
