Revoltech Yamaguchi No.138 EVA Mark.09 from "Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo"

--Translated from our Japanese blog--

Revoltech Yamaguchi has been mass producing Evangelions since June. We’re excited--and a bit creeped out--to introduce EVA Mark.09.

Greetings! It’s Shizu Mecha.

The Curse of Eva has brought me back for another Evangelion figure preview! This time we have a new mecha with a disquietingly familiar design. I’m not sure what it means to be the Vessel of the Adams, but I do know that you don’t want to face it in a staring contest.

Revoltech Yamaguchi No.138 EVA Mark.09 from "Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo"

Mark.09 hit the screen with a laundry list of answered questions. It looks suspiciously similar to EVA-00--from the front, anyway--and the pilot has been “tentatively named” as Rei Ayanami. This new release from Revoltech Yamaguchi takes the first step towards unraveling these mysteries.

Previous Revoltech Yamaguchi figures have showcased poseable eyeballs, but the Mark.09 takes this feature in a new, disturbing direction.

As you can see, you can rotate that big ‘ol eyeball in the center of its face. Don’t look now… it’s staring at you!

The red eye is made of a clear material with a painted pupil, giving it the depth of an actual human eyeball. Creepypasta in the making.

And what would this citron-colored Cyclops be without its trademark giant scythe?!

Pose it on top of this mountain of skulls and you’re all set to recreate the epic Eva-on-Eva battle at the bottom of the Central Dogma from the climax of Evangelion 3.0!

The skull stand is indented so that the feet can snap snugly into place. Judging by the size, these bones must have been attached to an Eva at one point…

The level of posability has been steadily evolving with the Revoltech Yamaguchi line and they've reached a new pinnacle of freedom with this one. The figure stays upright even when striking dynamic poses. Couple that with a moving eyeball that tracks its prey and you have one fearsome beast!

Mark.09 doesn't slow down even after having its head blasted off by Mari’s EVA-08. The figure comes with parts for the severed neck. Really, there’s nothing more macabre--or cool--than a humanoid running around with its head cut off.

Seriously, doesn't looking at that stump give you the willies?!

EVA Kai Type-02 Gamma gets a head start on its opponent as it charges into the Central Dogma to stop EVA-13 from removing the lances!

The skull base works with EVA Kai Type-02 Gamma and EVA-13 (sold separately), as well as any of the EVAs from the Revoltech Yamaguchi line.

(Note: EVA-13 has larger feet than the other figures. The toes will hang over slightly but it can still fit into the base without any problems.)

In my professional opinion, when it comes to crushing craniums EVA Kai Type-02 Gamma does it best!

It looks like a real death dealer, leg up on a mountain of skulls and gun-arm at the ready.

The stand makes for a great diorama prop for creating cinematic action scenes. Go ahead, take it for a spin!

“What would Rei Ayanami do in this situation…?”

While the Mark.09 itself may be shrouded in secrecy, the actual figure is easier to pose than EVA-13 or EVA Kai Type-02, making for a raw figure experience.

The other Units ain’t got ‘nothin on this giant scythe!

Not to mention that it’s the first Eva Revoltech loaded with a hyper-creepy poseable eyeball.

What kind of surprises does Revoltech Yamaguchi have in store for us with the upcoming conclusion to the film quadrilogy, Evangelion: Final?

In the near future we have the Beast Mode of EVA Kai Type-02 to look forward to--and more fan service as well!
