MimiMemeMimi Get Sentimental in New Video

Just when I had managed to wrap my tongue around Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, MimiMemeMimi came along and tied it into knots again.

A play on the Japanese for ears and eyes (mimi and me respectively), the self-styled audiovisual unit is made up of two college friends, vocalist Yuka and illustrator Chamooi. Their music videos are animated as opposed to live action, sort of like ClariS if the girls were singer-songwriters and not just Internet idols.

Their debut single Sentimental Love was written as the opening track for the ongoing romance drama A Town Where You Live/Kimi no Iru Machi. The melancholy lyrics offset by piano pop mirror the on-again-off-again relationship between protagonists Haruto and Yuzuki. And while I normally prefer girls with long purple hair like Yuzuki, Yuka’s animated avatar Mimi does look pretty cute with her puffy bob cut!
