Shokotan to the Rescue in Gothic Lolita Battle Bear Z

Otaku princess Shoko Nakagawa's dream has finally come true. Well, sort of.

After a decade of being turned down for roles in major tokusatsu TV series, the star will make her super heroine acting debut this January. Though don't expect to see any rangers or riders. Gothic Lolita Battle Bear Z features Shokotan as a goth lolita faced with the harrowing task of saving the world from an evil necromancer. Her heroic alter-ego played by real-life black belt Rina Takeda is a cat woman, naturally. Her kung fu master--a purple teddy bear, of course!

Those with a sharp eye may recognize the lolita wardrobe as Baby, the Stars Shine Bright-- a brand also prominently featured in the hilarious Japanese film Kamikaze Girls. The heroine costume was designed by none other than Gainax regulars Kazuya Tsurumaki and Shigeto Koyama, while Shokotan's pink nanchaku are homemade according to her blog.

Machine Girl and Robo-geisha director Noboru Iguchi pulls out all the stops with a swarm of 109 zombies, the most ever in a Japanese film. If the first trailer is anything to go by, this should be an instant B-movie classic!
